(JAKARTA) — Semen Merah Putih's Rigid Pavement (concrete road) supports sustainable infrastructure and is poised to accelerate national development transformation.
This statement was made by Syarif Hidayat, Head of Technical Marketing at PT Cemindo Gemilang Tbk, during a media group interview titled "Sustainable Infrastructure Transformation in Rigid Pavement Construction," held in Jakarta on Thursday morning (March 28, 2024).
Syarif emphasized that the sustainable development initiatives promoted by Semen Merah Putih are forward-looking.
Through consistent innovation, he stated, the company aims to support the transformation of infrastructure development, particularly by adopting rigid pavement for road construction.
Advantages of Rigid Pavement
Rigid pavement offers numerous advantages. Concrete has a better environmental impact compared to asphalt as a material for road construction.
Currently, the national cement production capacity is substantial, both in terms of production volume and potential capacity, to support national development needs.
“Sustainable development has been endorsed by the government through road construction using a rigid pavement approach, which offers benefits such as higher durability and long-term cost efficiency,” Syarif explained.
Furthermore, Syarif detailed that non-OPC cement, such as hydraulic cement, is specifically designed for strength performance.
This type of cement combines compressive strength, workability, and durability factors. It is particularly ideal for rigid pavement construction and is more environmentally friendly compared to OPC cement.
Consistent Reduction of CO2 Emissions
Semen Merah Putih is committed to consistently implementing strategies for reducing CO2 emissions in the production of various Non-OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) products.
“Some of the eco-friendly products from Semen Merah Putih include Portland Composite Cement (PCC), hydraulic cement, and Portland slag cement,” explained Syarif.
He believes that to accelerate the use of environmentally friendly cement in road infrastructure, effective collaboration is essential among producers and consumers in both the public and private sectors. This is the key to success.
